for "Best Invention" (KIWIE 2010) and for "Best Woman Inventor Seoul 2010" (World Intellectual Property Organization)

At the Korea International Women's Innovation Exposition (KIWIE) 2010 our patented invention Solar Display has been awarded with the Gold Medal for best Invention. Moreover, the invention also has been awarded with the „Best Woman Inventor Seoul 2010“ von der World Intellectual Property Organization. Christa Sommerer, as a team member of the inventing team, received the medal.

Solar Display  - self-sustained optical display apparatus

Solar Display provides a self-sustaining media facade based on individual turnable photovoltaic cells. This invention provides the first real sustainable "green" display for large area communication. A huge photovoltaic field is attached to the building's facade in a  curtain-like manner. It has a modular structure and a segmental maintenance. Each solar cell in this field acts as a Solar Pixel that can be turned individually to a certain position.  Seen from far these Solar Pixels function as pixels in a display.  In collaboration, the position and inclination of these Solar Pixels create a large  scale  images and/or text display. In addition the solar pixels can also be  used as sun blinds. The surplus energy that is not used for operation can be fed into the public power network.

Solar Display gewinnt zwei Goldmedailien 2010

Für ihr Projekt "Self-sustained Solar Display" erhielt das Professorenteam der Kunstuniversität Linz (Laurent Mignonneau, Michael Shamiyeh, Christa Sommerer) den vom Bundesministeriums für Wissenschaft und Forschung (aws) vergebenen  Innovation Prize 2008 zur Förderung der Entwicklung von Prototypen, die Goldmedaillie an der Korea International Women`s Invention Exposition 2010 sowie den Preis der „Best Woman Inventor Seoul 2010“ von der World Intellectual Property Organization.

Solar Display  - self-sustained optical display apparatus
