Programmed Façade - Parametric Design

A 1970 erected, multi-storied office building should be redeveloped completely. In the course of redevelopment it will receive a new façade. Core of the project will be the design of the metal sun- and sightscreen placed in front of the glass façade.
SUBJECT
A 1970 erected, multi-storied office building should be redeveloped completely. In the course of redevelopment it will receive a new façade. Core of the project will be the design of the metal sun- and sightscreen placed in front of the glass façade. The structure of this new sort of a sightscreen should approach the pore-like tissue of foam. Furthermore, depending on the use of the space behind, the pore-like tissue-design of the sightscreen may shut tighter or be „opener“.
METHOD
As far as the design of a structure of that kind with conventional methods (by hand) neither is feasible nor does it seem convenient, we will create its form computer-supported. Moreover it’s convenient to create a façade that can be changed after tests with prototypes are finished or if – for example - the structural engineering requires more stability. With the help of a laser-cutter real prototypes shall be produced at a scale of 1:1.
A successful progress of the project requires a prolific co-operation between the two partner institutions (DOM and FH Hagenberg) as well as the obligatory structural engineering office. Head of the project is Arch. Shamiyeh.
AIM
Considering aesthetical, functional, material and static aspects there should be achieved a parametric outline of the sight- and sunscreen in the form of a software-tool and several prototypes, which makes in consequence an exact realisation possible.
