(THEORY AND HISTORY OF ARCHITECTURE)

The main task of this semester is surveying (design-) attitudes since modernism with regard to their intentions (ideologies). In the course of the seminar it is shown that the predominant part of today’s prevailing architecture-tendencies are direct and respectively indirect answers to the (unfinished) „project of modernism“. That’s why this seminar attempts to create a kind of history of „ideas“ of contemporary architecture.

Starting point for the survey of contemporary architecture regarding their intentions is a more detailed look at the best-known representatives of today’s prevailing (design-) attitudes. At the beginning of the seminar the “project of modernism” in itself is studied to reach a common basis. The seminar rather is to be understood as place of discussion, where each participant is asked to take part in an active way, than a conventional lecture. Therefore the participation at the seminar is obligatory. Additional literature references are given regularly. Reading the literature given or respectively the knowledge of it is considered urgent.
