4th International DOM Conference, May 14 -17, 2009 Creating Desired Futures

In this conference it will be explored how design – here not understood as a way of form shaping but as a way of creative thinking different from analysis – may add value in solving complex business problems. Nike, Shell Innovation Research, or IDEO among many other speakers from the field of consulting, academia and research will comment on the relevance of this issue.

Robert Bauer (A)

Robert M. Bauer is Associate Professor of Organizational Design at Johannes Kepler University Linz, Austria. Currently he is a Visiting Professor at the Joseph L. Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto. His research aims at a better understanding of different ways of knowing, including but not limited to formal and every day language statements.

Simonetta Carbonaro (S/D)

Simonetta Carbonaro is Consumer Psychologist and Expert for Innovation Management and Strategic Design. She is professor of Humanistic Marketing and Design Management at the University of Borås in Sweden.

Arnab Chatterjee (CDN)

Arnab Chatterjee graduated with an honours degree in Chemistry from Oriel College, University of Oxford in 2000. Between 2000 and 2004, he worked for Professor John Foord, in the Oxford Centre for Surface Science, developing novel semiconductors for use in electrochemical applications.

Fred Collopy (US)

Fred Collopy,   Professor of Cognitive Science Weatherhead School of Management, Case Western Reserve University received his PhD in decision sciences from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He has done extensive research in forecasting, design and visual programming.

Gerald Fliegel (A)

Gerald Fliegel is Senior Vice President “Research and Development” – Business Administrator Siemens VAI Technologies GmbH. Born 1961 in Salzburg, he began studying at the Technical University of Graz in 1979 and graduated there in the field of Mechanical Engineering in 1984.

Jamshid Gharajedaghi (US)

Jamshid Gharajedaghi, Managing Partner of INTERACT, has more than thirty-five years of experience with the development & practice of systems methodology in designing business architecture, learning and control systems. His work has taken him into corporations and government agencies around the world for both private and public concerns.

David Griesbach (CH)

David Griesbach is Senior Consultant of the Strategic Knowledge Group (SKGROUP) in Zurich and writes his dissertation in the context of RISE Management Research and in cooperation with the Swiss Institute for small and middle-sized companies of the University St. Gallen. The topic of his dissertation is „Strategic Agility: Managing the Balance between Continuity and Change“.

Martin Herrndorf (CH)

Martin Herrndorf (1981) started his studies as an oikos PhD Fellow in February 2008. His research focus is on sustainable business innovations in the consumption arena in developing countries, combining a strategic management perspective with an analysis of their development contribution.

Alejandro Gutierrez (UK)

Alejandro Gutierrez is an Associate Director at Arup Urban Design leading a range urban development projects globally. The projects take place in Dongtan Eco City-Shanghai, Wanzhuang Eco City-Beijing and Port Regeneration Strategy-Copenhagen.

Albin Kälin (CH)

Albin Kälin, born in 1957 is former president of Rohner Textil AG and president of EPEA (Environmental Protection Encouragement Agency). He is a Swiss pioneer in the field of Sustainable Development and claims an integrated management, balancing economic, ecologic and social aspects.

Kamil Michlewski (UK)

Dr Kamil Michlewski is a Senior Consultant at The Value Engineers – a strategic brand consultancy based in UK. He is an account manager and works with a number of blue-chip clients on issue ranging from global consumer segmentation to brand strategy. Kamil previously worked as a senior strategy lecturer at Newcastle Business School.

Markus Miessen (D)

Markus Miessen (*1978) is an architect, writer and researcher migrating between Berlin, London, Cambridge (MA) and the Middle East. In 2002, he set up Studio Miessen, a collaborative agency for spatial practice and cultural analysis, and in 2007 was founding partner of the Berlin-based architectural practice nOffice.

Marco Murillo (NL)

Marco began his career in commerce at age seven when he launched his first business Blackberries Inc. Marco has since worked at Nike's World headquarters as a Global Footwear Product Line Manager prior to joining Nike’s European Headquarters in The Netherlands.

Juan Palop Casado (ES)

Juan Palop-Casado is architect and urban planner. He received a Master in Design Studies at Harvard University, where he was part of the research group Project on The City, led by Rem Koolhass. Palop-Casado teaches at the School of Architecture of Las Palmas (Canary Islands).

Christian Presslmayer (A)

Christian Presslmayer is multi-project- and process-manager at the voestalpine Stahl Service Center in Linz since 2007. Now he is additionally responsible for Strategic Planning and Organisational Development. In the years before he was project leader at the Red Cross in Upper Austria at the department for EDV.

Ilya Prokopoff (US)

Ilya Prokopoff co-founded a practice at IDEO called Transformation that helps clients use the tools and methods of design to work in new ways, to address the challenges of the future, and to effect change in their organizations.

Wolfgang Schwaiger (A)

After completing his doctorate in Business Studies, Wolfgang Schwaiger initially held a number of management positions in several large industrial companies, where he focussed primarily on strategic corporate development and communication. He then joined the large international technology firm (VA TECH) as director of corporate strategy, communication and investor relations.

John Thackara (NL/F)

John Thackara is Director of Doors of Perception (Doors), a sustainability design network active in Europe and India. People participate in Doors who need to imagine sustainable and engaging futures – and take design steps to realize them.

Greg Van Alstyne (CDN)

Greg Van Alstyne is Associate Professor at the Ontario College of Art & Design (OCAD), and Director of Research at Strategic Innovation Lab (sLab), Toronto. He is a design educator and consultant with 20 years experience in communications and creative direction.

Sonja Zillner (D)

Sonja Zillner studied Mathematics and Psychology, and did her PHD-Studies in computer science specializing in knowledge management. Since several years she is working as project leader for technology and innovation projects at Siemens AG Corporate Technology. She is consultant at osb Tübingen GmbH specializing on innovation and change and lecturing at University of Vienna.
